Girl Scouts Welcome graphicIs your daughter interested in becoming a Girl Scout?  Here are some things you should know:

Any girl who is between 5 and 17 years old can become a Girl Scout by accepting the Girl Scout Promise and Law and paying the $12 annual membership dues.  However, no girl will be denied membership in Girl Scouts for financial reasons.

The Girl Scout Law:

On my honor, I will try

To serve God* and my country,

To help people at all times,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

* The word "God" can be interpreted in a number of ways, depending on one's spiritual beliefs.  When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word "God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.

The Girl Scout Promise:

I will do my best to be

honest and fair,

friendly and helpful,

considerate and caring,

courageous and strong, and

responsible for what I say and do,

and to

respect myself and others,

respect authority,

use resources wisely,

make the world a better place, and

be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Pathways to join Girl Scouts

Troops: girls join a troop and work on the Girl Scout program together.  This includes earning official insignia, product sales, and Girl Scout events.

Juliette: girls can register as individual Girl Scouts, called Juliettes, and work on the Girl Scout program on their own.  They can also participate in product sales with other Juliettes, and attend Girl Scout events on their own or with other troops.

Camp: girls can attend day camps and residential camps during the summer.  You can view our camp website at www.camprocks.org

Events: girls can register as Girl Scouts and attend Girl Scout events throughout the year.  To check out a list of events hosted by our council, please download this year’s Choices Activity Guide.

Girl Scout levels:

Wondering what Girl Scout level your daughter would be in?

  • Girl Scout Daisy: grades K-1
  • Girl Scout Brownie: grades 2-3
  • Girl Scout Junior: grades 4-5
  • Girl Scout Cadette: grades 6-8
  • Girl Scout Senior: grades 9-10
  • Girl Scout Ambassador: grades 11-12

The easiest and fastest way to get your daughter involved in Girl Scouts is by starting your own troop! Girl Scouts of Northern California and the Redwood City Girl Scouts offer free training and year-long support to its Girl Scout volunteers, which makes starting a troop of your own a great alternative! For more information on how to start your own Girl Scout troop, including the necessary trainings, please contact our Membership Coordinator.

If you cannot start your own troop or find a local troop with openings, your daughter will be placed on our wait list.  Please contact our Membership Coordinator to place your daughter on our wait list.

For any other Girl Scout questions not covered in this page, please contact our Community Development Director, Cecilia Kuhn at ckuhn@girlscoutsnorcal.org, or our Redwood City Service Unit Directors.
