Orientation (45 minutes):

Organization overview; should be taken before getting a new troop packet.

 

 

 

Welcome Session (15 minutes):

Welcome SessionA personal session where registration materials are given out. To schedule, contact our Membership Coordinator, or our Service Unit Director.

 

 

Getting Started (2 hours):

Getting StartedHow to get a troop started. Must be taken before registering the troop. In person session can be scheduled by contacting our Membership Coordinator.

 

 

Safety-Wise (45 minutes):

Safety WiseIns and outs of using Safety-Wise. Must be taken before meeting with the girls.

 

 

 

Leadership Essentials (2 hrs): How to work with girls

LeadershipIncludes an in-depth introduction to the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience, plus using Journeys. Must be taken within four months of Getting Started training.

 

 

Beginning in fall 2008, at least one adult in attendance at every troop/group meeting or outing must have taken the entire core leadership series.  The council will continue to offer Age Level courses.  Although these courses will no longer be required, they are highly recommended.  These courses will be offered in In-Person, Online, and Home Study formats.  Although there are four separate courses plus the Welcome Session, the total time spent will be under six hours for the entire Core Leadership Series.

First-Aid:

First Aid Level I

Recommended but not required: For troop meetings and most in-town field trips. Required for specific activities as outlined in Safety-Wise

 

Accepted Classes:

Red Cross: Standard First Aid & CPR, Community First Aid & Safety with CPR American Heart Association: CPR classes EMP America: Pediatric Medic First Aid & CPR

First Aid Level II

Before specified activities as outlined in Safety-Wise. Especially for specific high-risk activities, events with more than 200 people, and extended trips such as backpacking.

 

Classes:

See Safety-Wise page 36 for a list of classes. Health care providers listed may also be Level 2 First-Aiders: physician, dentist, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, paramedic, military medic, and emergency medical technician.

Camping:

Troop Camping Certification (6 hours) Any cooking outdoors or sleeping outdoors (anywhere without electricity and indoor bathrooms). Required of at least one adult who will assist girls and who will attend the trip. Class covers how to teach skills to girls and prepare them for their outdoor experience, as well as health and safety concerns when camping in a large group. Outdoor skills will be taught.
